Nokia Lumia 820 Preview

Earlier this month, Nokia gave us a quick peek into its first two Windows Phone powered handsets. Completing the lower end of the price tag is the Nokia Lumia 820. Regardless of your budget, Nokia has a Windows Phone 8 handset in store for you, the Lumia 820. While the modest looking Lumia 820 is not match for its more impressive cousin, the Lumia 920, it is bound to capture the mid range handsets market upon release.

While some may find this a bit uncomfortable, but there may be a trace of truth in the fact that Nokia’s Windows Phone 8 powered phones were the only good handsets that work on Microsoft’s mobile OS that is in its nascent development stage.

Here is a complete rundown on the Lumia 820. Let’s see what this Windows Phone powered Lumia 820 has and what it sorely lacks.

The Design

The Lumia 820 comes with a well rounded sleek look. There is nothing sharp or angular in its look. The phone has been treated with rounded corners to compliment its rounded edges. The phone has been given some really attractive curves that make this handset stand out from the rest. The Lumia 820 comes in bright colorful casings as we have come to expect from Nokia mobiles.  The Lumia 820 is expected to come in Red, Yellow, Purple, White, Black and Cyan. Although you can safely expect these phones to have a glossy finish, Lumia 820 has a very plastic-like appearance. The Nokia logo appears a bit off centered adding that extra design quotient into the phone.

The Display

The feature that will make this phone stick out in the mid range level is its display. The display resolution is not very high. Although the 4.3-inch Clear Black Display Super AMOLED screen is every bit as attractive as the Lumia 920, but the 800 X 480 pixels is a big letdown in terms of the picture resolution. This phone will come with a row of capacitive button and front facing camera to aid in video calling. The Lumia 820 is supposed to be super sensitive to touch.

The Hardware

Since Windows Phone 8 supports multi core processors, Lumia 820 comes with 1.5GHz dual core processor. It has a decent 1650 mAh battery.

The back panel has a camera module in a contrasting color to make the module stand out from the rest.  It also comes with a rear-end camera having 8mp that can also shoot videos at 1080 pixels per inch.

The phone comes with an 8GB built-in storage with the option of increasing it with the help of a microSD card.

The Software

The Lumia 820 will be among the first phones to run on the Windows Phone operating system. This new OS means your home screen will go through a revamp and that you’ll be able to resize your widgets. Apart from this, you’ll get accustomed to the tile-like look of Windows Phone. Your home screen will sport live tile, smooth menu transitions and minimalistic icons.

The Final Impression

Windows Phone 8 is not as established as Android or Apple’s iOS. It might be important to bear in mind that Windows Phone 8 doesn’t have many apps to boast of like its rival platforms. Still, with its promising features, specifications and the brand Microsoft, we can expect the phone to create some magic among the users.
