Tips for Buying a New Tablet

Whether you are looking to buy a tablet for yourself, or you are going to buy one as a gift for the upcoming holidays, you will find that you do have quite a few things to consider. Many different tablets are on the market today, and it’s not as simple as just walking into the store and picking out an iPad, unless, of course, you are sure that is what you want. Before you choose any tablet based on hype or name brand alone, it is a good idea to learn as much as possible about your options. Even just a little knowledge is going to go a long way in helping you to make an informed decision.

Knowing What You Need

One of the questions that you will have to ask is how you, or the person for whom you are buying, are going to be using the tablet. If you are going to be using the tablet at home or at an area where you know you will be able to connect to the Wi-Fi, there is no reason to buy the 3G or 4G tablets. However, if you are going to be using the tablet while you are out and unable to connect with a hotspot, then having that 3G connectivity is going to be key. The 3G tablets do cost more than their Wi-Fi only counterparts do, and you will have to have a data plan to go along with them.

What Operating System is the Best?

If you already have an iPod or an iPhone, you will be familiar with the iOS system that the iPad uses. Those who aren’t keen on learning a new operating system might want to consider getting an iPad simply because they will be able to pick it up and go due to the familiarity. Many of the other tablets on the market today, including the Kindle Fire and the Samsung Galaxy Tab make use of Android. It is different from iOS, but different does not necessarily mean bad. Those who have Android phones are not going to have any trouble working with an Android tablet.

Each of the operating systems has pros and cons, and determining which of the systems you want to use is going to be one of the most important choices you will make. If you know some people who have tablets, ask them what they think about their devices and the operating system. In addition, it is always a good idea to look up reviews to see what other people are saying about the OS as well as the tablet itself. These reviews from actual customers are going to give you a much better idea of what you can expect when you buy your tablet.

Size Might Matter

Another one of the things that you will want to consider when you are buying your tablet is the size. You can find tablets of many different sizes on the market today, from the small 7-inch screens to the larger 10-inch screens. Depending on what you are going to do with the tablet, the size could be quite important. If you are only going to use is for casual surfing or reading, then you might find that the 7-inch tablets are all that you need. Those who are watching videos or working on the tablet, or who just want something a bit more substantial, might want to move on up to the 10-inch tablets.

Price is likely to be a factor as well, but do not let price be the sole dictator. If you find a tablet that you love, but that you cannot afford right now, you can always save until you can afford your dream tablet.
